INDIGO: Industry Digital Twin Integration and Optimization for Modular Industry 4.0 within the FIDAL Framework

INDIGO is a FIDAL Open Call 2 experiment. We demonstrate a time-critical, 5G-enabled digital twin that synchronises autonomous ground vehicles with modular Bosch Rexroth conveyor lines. The twin, its online planner and a 3D XR visualiser run at the Telenor LST 5G edge with local breakout, driven by live factory data.

Our contribution includes Limotwyn for streaming and limiting-factor analysis, Skylark for online planning and visual overlays, and FluxROS for ROS 2 connectivity. The stack runs as containers on an NXP i.MX 8M Plus edge board using our GRiSP Alloy image, with mutual-TLS and built-in PKI for secure operation.

The experiment runs in 2025 - 2026 with financial support of €150K under Option 1. Open Call 2 selected nine experiments; the full cohort is listed on the FIDAL website.

Open Call 2 Sub-Beneficiaries

INDIGO is one of nine third-party experiments selected in FIDAL Open Call 2. FIDAL (Field Trials for 5G and Beyond) is a Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking Innovation Action under Horizon Europe grant 101096146, providing advanced 5G testbed infrastructure for validating next-generation network applications. The other eight selected experiments include SafeXCity, WOLF, DARK-5G, 5G4ZDM, HoloFID, ReDrone5G, 5G-SHIELD and 5G-RESCUE, each addressing different use cases across urban safety, disaster response, manufacturing, XR applications and industrial automation. See the winners page for details on all nine experiments.
